What is fat injection?
Among the biological
filling materials, most preferred one is the personal fat
tissue of the patient. This method, which we can call fat
transplant as well, fat taken from abdomen, thigh and waist
is injected into the skin with special injectors; and with
this way, harmony is secured in face contour and facial
areas like lips, cheekbones and chins get plump.
How is fat injection applied?
During this procedure,
areas, from which fat is to be gathered and injection areas
benumbed with local anesthesia. After fat tissue is taken
with a thin liposuction cannula, it is put under some
operations and transferred into the receiver area with
special injectors. During this process no pain is felt and
it takes a short time.
Are there any difficulties after the
procedure? When can we turn back to normal life?
To the injection area,
a thin bandage with plasters is applied, which will be taken
out on the third day after the operation. Pain is so mild or
no pain is felt. Possible swellings and bruises will be
recovered after 5-7 days. During this time, in order to
cover up the bruises, makeup can be applied. In order for
the bruises not leave spots on body, protection from
ultraviolet rays would be appropriate.
Is it necessary to repeat fat
injection?
Yes. 50% of the fat
tissue injected can be dissolved in 6 months. That is why
for the first year, 1 or 2 two times fat injection may be
necessary for supply. However, this decision should be made
after a surgeon-patient negotiation. For some patients,
tissue injection may not be necessary for 1-1.5 years. It
should not be forgotten that even though fat cells become a
part of our body by living with blood vessels flowing from
neighbor tissues, in time with aging, the tendency to
dissolve, collapse and melt away is still a point at issue.
Can fat injection be combined with our
operations?
It can be applied with
such technical skin renewing operations (rejuvenation
procedures like laser and chemical peeling) or/and with
face-lifting operations.
What are the advantages and
disadvantages of fat injections?
Most important
advantage of this technique is that dramatic face
rejuvenation is obtained without surgical cuts and stitches.
Also it is a noninvasive procedure that does not keep person
away from social life and does not require a long term care
and dressings. Right after the procedure, persons can go
back to their normal life. Its disadvantage is that it needs
to be repeated and every time, tissues (fat) should be taken
from the patient (though extra fat tissues can be preserved
in deep freezers)
